A pool technician in Arizona has solved the question of what to wear with a collection of ironic T-shirts designed specifically for fellow pool pros.

Just go to PoolGuyGear.com and you’ll find shirts that read “powered by chlorine,” “mo’ CYA, mo’ problems” and the classic line service pros hear all the time: “my husband just cleaned the filters last week!”

Founded by Kayne Zamorano, owner/operator of Premier Pool Care (Phoenix, Ariz.) and his business partner, Brad Dodge, Pool Guy Gear was borne out of an inside joke in an industry Facebook group.

“We had a running joke — when someone posts about a bad pool or a bad customer, we would comment and say ‘service cancelled,’” Zamorano says.

Thus the first shirt (and one of the most popular) was born. From there, Zamorano and Dodge quickly drafted additional shirt concepts to build out the online store.

“We’re selling a lot of the chlorine ones, like the chlorine dealer, straight outta chlorine. All the chlorine ones are doing really well,” Zamorano says.

Pool Guy Gear is still in its infancy, but Zamorano says he intends the site to remain a hobby. The goal isn’t to make a large profit off shirt sales, but to provide a little fun to others in the service community.

“The pool business is so serious, and on the service side we deal with a lot of BS from customers and stuff, so we try to have some fun with it,” Zamorano says.

The store is regularly updated with new shirts when the duo have time; future plans include adding women’s cuts to the store and even growing the store into a destination for all industry clothing needs.

“The goal now is to use the shirts to start conversation,” Zamorano says. “But we want to expand it and maybe become a one-stop shop for people who want to get shirts printed for their companies or find high-quality clothing that lasts a long time and won’t get stained by chlorine.”
