The work of Joe Vassallo and Paragon Pools is famous for its creative blending of fire and water; this pool provides yet another superb example. As is the case with other pools from this accomplished builder, there's a lot going on here, yet it all seems to get along and work together. There are a lot of hard edges and acute angles in the desert, and the pools own geometry is congruent with those natural shapes, making it appear indigenous.
On this project, the home's Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired architecture called for multiple focal points with water serving as a nexus. This was achieved with fire elements positioned at the uppermost and lowest points of elevations connected by flowing water.
From the raised spa, water flows around the top fire bowl via copper channel spillways, across the pool toward the negative edge, down the tile-lined spillway to a large catch basin, which encompasses a floating linear fire pit.
The pool employs four 2-horsepower Jandy pumps connected to the pool by 2 Ā½-inch pipes, and it has a Jandy AquaPure salt chlorine generator, Paramount ClearO3 ozone system and a Paramount PV3 cleaning system. The finish is exposed aggregate by PebbleTec, and the fire elements come from Fire By Design.
Materials used include travertine decking, custom copper runnels, glass tile, granite countertops and granite bar stool tops. All of these elements were incorporated into the design using Structure Studios' 3-D Pool Studio software, which enabled visualization of the project as a whole and helped ensure clear sight lines from both the first floor and basement of the house.
