For more than five decades, Leisure World Pool & Spa has helped Vermonters turn their backyards into places to relax, gather and enjoy the outdoors. Founded in 1970, the family-owned business in South Burlington has built its reputation on dependable service, knowledgeable technicians and a commitment to doing the job right.
“Our philosophy is simple: take care of the customer and stand behind the work,” says owner Tod Bessery. “That approach has helped us build long-term relationships across Vermont.”

From its earliest days, Leisure World has focused on providing full-service support for pool and spa owners. The company installs and services inground and aboveground pools, along with hot tubs and spas, and has developed a strong reputation for technical expertise. Many of its technicians are factory trained and certified, and the team handles everything from installations to maintenance and repairs for residential customers throughout the region.
“Our technicians take pride in helping customers bring their backyard visions to life,” Bessery says. “Whether it’s a new pool installation or repairing a spa during a holiday weekend, we’re committed to being there when our customers need us.”

That dedication to service has helped the company maintain its standing in the community for decades. In a state where long winters shorten the swimming season, reliability and responsiveness have become key differentiators.
Inside the showroom, Leisure World Pool & Spa continues to evolve its retail space to improve the customer experience. The store is reorganizing its layout to highlight product displays along the outer walls, creating more room in the center for hot tubs and pool options. “We want customers to be able to walk through the store and easily see everything we offer,” Bessery says.
The showroom features dedicated sections for pool maintenance supplies, chemicals, replacement parts and pool toys, along with a filled hot tub near the entrance designed to capture visitors’ attention. Smaller grab-and-go items are positioned near the checkout counter, making it easy for customers to pick up essentials during a visit.

Beyond the store, Leisure World continues to expand its digital presence to stay connected with customers year- round. The company regularly updates its website and social media channels while also using radio advertising and email campaigns to reach homeowners throughout the region.
Technology is also helping streamline operations. Service technicians coordinate schedules through shared digital calendars, and a new online booking system allows customers to schedule appointments more efficiently. Meanwhile, decades of paper records dating back to the company’s founding are being digitized and stored in the cloud for faster access.
One of the company’s most memorable projects came when Leisure World was selected to build the swimming pool for the 2022 HGTV Dream Home in Warren, Vt. — a recognition that brought national attention to the company’s craftsmanship.
The team has also supported meaningful local initiatives, including building a pool for Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a year-round camp serving children with cancer. “These projects are especially rewarding because they show how pools can bring joy and healing to people,” Bessery says.
In the years ahead, Leisure World Pool & Spa plans to continue growing its service department while expanding the range of services available to customers. “Our goal is to keep improving while maintaining the reputation we’ve already built,” Bessery says. “We’ve always believed that service is what keeps customers coming back.”
