APSP Seeks Aboveground/Onground Standards Writers
The Aboveground/Onground Pools Standards Writing Committee seeks APSP members to join its ranks. The committee is responsible for writing, reviewing and revising the ANSI/APSP-4 Standard for Aboveground/Onground Pools.
Committee members will share their expertise and viewpoints in the development of criteria, specifications and guidelines for the equipment, design and operation of aboveground/onground pools, and will participate in the review of existing and new materials for this standard. The review process begins in January in Atlantic City, N.J.
The committee will also review and respond to the comments received from the ANSI consensus voting body. While much of the work will be accomplished remotely, volunteers will be required to attend committee meetings as necessary. Committee guidelines are available for your review from APSP staff.
To volunteer, send your resume by Dec. 31, 2009 (describing your qualifications and experience) to Bernice Crenshaw at [email protected], or by mail to: APSP, 2111 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria, VA 22314, or by fax: (703) 549-0493.
Merlin Purchases American Resin
Merlin Industries, Hamilton, N.J., has purchased American Resin Manufacturing and has transferred the manufacturing equipment to its Hamilton location.
"We are very excited to be branching out into a totally new market compared to our current product offerings," says Andrew Maggion, president. "American Resin has built a great reputation for quality and service, and we look forward to continuing to provide their customers those same qualities."
Currently, Merlin manufactures vinyl liners, safety covers, spa covers and removable safety fences. However it has already begun manufacturing the Aqua Staircase, a rotationally molded aboveground, drop-in step, previously developed by American Resin.
"When we looked at the product being manufactured by American Resin compared to the offerings of their competitors, we felt there was a true difference in strength and durability," says Jim Zell, vice president of sales and marketing.
"The Aqua Staircase is simple, requiring very little assembly and is much stronger and sturdier than other drop-in steps on the market. We were very impressed with the American Resin Product and felt it fit right in with the quality of our other lines."
NSPF Announces Board Of Directors Update
John Puetz, director of technology at Advantis Technologies, has been elected president of the National Swimming Pool Foundation Board of Directors. He succeeds Cory Willis, who served three consecutive one-year terms ending Oct. 31 this past year.
"Our board plays a critical role in acting as the Foundation's conscience while defining our strategic goals to empower our chief executive officer and his staff to continue to elevate our field," says Puetz. "I am honored to take the reigns of leadership for, what I believe, is the most progressive and influential education and research organization our industry has ever had."
Bill Kent was reelected to serve as secretary, and Don Witte was reelected to serve as treasurer. The NSPF also welcomes three new members: Bruce Dunn, Scot Hunsaker, and Dan Johnson.
"These leaders have distinguished themselves with high ethical standards and a commitment to service. We look forward to working with them as they help us lead NSPF to an even brighter future," adds Puetz.
Industry Happenings
AQUA Magazine wishes Vyn-All Pool Products a Happy 25th Anniversary. "We started this business to meet the need for high-quality vinyl liners and safety covers in the Northeast and have expanded it into a national operation with two manufacturing facilities," says Kevin Shea, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "I couldn't have done it without the help of the great workers in our company. We are proud to be a part of the pool industry and look forward to continued successes in the many years to come."
The Genesis 3 Design Group has chosen the NSPF Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) certification as one of three educational requirements for the newly launched Genesis 3 "Education to Service Professional" certification program.
"The NSPF CPO certification program exemplifies the training that we would expect from a Genesis 3 professional," says Skip Phillips, a G3 cofounder. "NSPF is recognized around the globe as having the world's leading, verifiable pool and spa training credential. As Genesis 3 continues to expand beyond U.S. borders, the NSPF multi-lingual, metric offerings and online training opens the door of education to broader regional professionals to raise their abilities."
