It was a case of the wrong pool at the wrong time. This home had an existing 15-by-30 foot shallow pool, but the homeowner needed hydrotherapy features to help treat a heart condition. So he turned to local designer/builder Randy Beard of Pure Water Pools to transform his existing custom pool into a multifaceted hydrotherapy center. The catch: The client wanted a complete reimagining of the system without changing the pool’s appearance.
Working entirely within the confines of the pool, Beard ingeniously divided the shell into quadrants. In one area, he re-contoured the shell to create a spa with multiple therapy jets and a rolled edge for comfort reclining. Across from the spa is an 18-inch deep area that supports an unusual chaise lounge with an array of metal pipes that emit air bubbles for buoyancy and comfort. In another quadrant, Beard created a stand-up therapy area with jets from all direction and a large overhead massage spillway. Finally, the pool includes a shallow lounging area.
“It’s certainly one of the most unusual remodels we’ve done,” Beard says. “And it’s a testament to how important the health benefits can become to clients looking to maintain an active lifestyle.”
