In 2010, the WLSL Team set a new Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson ever with 4,000 participants across 34 states, and this year, they hope to break last year's record with an even scheduled for Tuesday, June 14.
The greater goal is to spread the word about water safety and to promote the message that "swimming lessons save lives." According to worldslargestswimminglesson.org, "Research shows if a child doesn't learn to swim by the third grade, they likely never will. The World's Largest Swimming Lesson was created to serve as a platform to help local community aquatic facilities and the many different national, regional and state wide water safety and drowning- prevention organizations work together to tell this important story on a local and national level."
