Litomyšl, a town in the eastern Czech Republic, is home to an indoor swimming pool for the public to enjoy. DRNH Architects, also based in the Czech Republic, led the design of the pool and its surrounding buildings, creating a space that works all year- round for locals to soak up water- centric relaxation.
“Both the architectural and site designs strictly respect the project purpose and the site’s green context, characterized by the touch of a considerable morphological promontory featuring grown trees, shrubs and grass-covered areas sloping down from the Cerná Hora massif to the town,” the architects explain in an official project description.
Many parts make up the whole at the Litomyšl pool; an outdoor pool in the immediate vicinity can be “operationally interconnected” during the warmer months to blend both spaces into one seamless experience.
“The overall volume of the hall is reduced as much as possible by fragmenting into several structural modules softly modeled into organic curved lines, so that the shell of the building is visually linked to the Cerná Hora slope,” the team at DRNH Architects says. “The excavated soil has been reused for terrain modeling and rooftop fills, reducing the hall’s operation and energy costs.”
A notable achievement of this project is the architects’ success in making this building meet all parameters of an energy-saving building. Not only is it a beautiful addition to the landscape, but it also offers environmental benefits to the community.
Alongside the main pools are other features, including a 25-meter pool with five lanes, a “fun pool for non- swimmers,” a whirlpool and a steam room. The relaxation opportunities know no end in this swimming facility.
Complete with a lush, greenery- filled, summer leisure-time patio, this indoor facility is more than just a pool. It’s a gathering space for all who seek relaxation in the water.
