California swimming hole embodies natural surroundings

Oqq 109 AqWhen the homeowners of this Cool, Calif., property first appro-ached Leslie Jackson, chief designer for Natural Design, they told him they wanted a swimming hole that would accommodate the entire family, not to mention their collection of paddle boats.

The expansive project features a zero-entry beach, waterslide, wading pool, grotto, streambeds and a series of waterfalls built into pre-existing rock formations.

"We also did a water feature higher up on the property where I found an outcrop of rocks which was going to be visible from the upstairs windows of their home, and also from the approach where everybody drives into the property," says Jackson.

Natural Design sculpted structural concrete into rock formations to create the boulders around the swimming hole. Jackson designed and Natural Design built a 14-foot waterfall that flows into a pond nearly 150 feet away from the main pool.

"In between [the pond and the swimming hole] we've done a series of streambeds so that it looks as though everything is connected together," adds Jackson.

The swimming hole operates off a Pentair IntelliFlo pump and IntelliChlor salt chlorine system. The entire system relies on the IntelliTouch automation system, as well.

"At Natural Design, we like to keep the look of the project natural, and also as environmentally friendly as possible," says Jackson.
