For decades, ABC Pool & Spa Center has led Maine’s pool industry, evolving from a single operation into a full-service company. Founded by Clarence Letourneau, the company built its reputation on quality craftsmanship, exceptional customer service, and strong family values. Today, the Letourneau family continues that legacy, sharing Clarence’s passion for pools and the communities they serve.
“ABC Pool & Spa Center was built on a simple idea — bringing the joy of family pools to Maine,” says Greg Letourneau, son of owner Daniel Letourneau. “What started as one pool installation turned into a lifelong mission to create spaces where families can relax, have fun, and make lasting memories.”
Treating customers like family is central to ABC Pool & Spa Center’s philosophy. “When a customer walks through our doors, we see more than a transaction,” Letourneau explains. Over the years, the company has become the go-to problem solver for pool owners. Many customers share success stories: Susan Adell struggled with water chemistry issues elsewhere before ABC Pools quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem. Loyal customer Michael Breton, a patron since 1978, praises their consistent service and expertise. Newcomer William Rowland found them the only pool company to call him back when he needed a full renovation. From straightening pool walls to installing new patios, the team went above and beyond to exceed his expectations.
Walking into ABC Pool & Spa Center, customers are met with a modern and thoughtfully designed retail space. A state-of-the-art water testing station is strategically placed at the entrance for easy access during peak pool season. The store layout is carefully arranged, with dedicated sections for chlorine, non-chlorine, and specialty chemicals, as well as a separate spa section. A well-stocked parts wall near the register ensures customers can quickly find what they need, while a dedicated sales section — complete with seating and refreshments — creates a welcoming shopping experience.
In addition to enhancing its instore experience, ABC Pool & Spa Center has fully embraced digital transformation to better serve its customers. The company’s website offers the convenience of scheduling pool openings and closings, purchasing chemicals online, and paying invoices through an easy-to-use bill pay system. “We understand that today’s customers want flexibility,” says Letourneau. “That’s why we make it as easy as possible for them to do business with us — whether they visit the store or handle everything from home.”
By leveraging Google Ads, keyword optimization, and regular website updates, ABC Pools ensures it remains at the top of search results when local customers need pool services. A strong presence on Facebook and Instagram further enhances customer engagement and brand visibility. While the company once relied heavily on print advertising and direct mail campaigns — personally hand-labeling thousands of mailers each year — it has since transitioned to a digital-first approach. Today, the focus is on SEO, targeted ads, and social media outreach, allowing ABC Pools to connect with a broader audience while maintaining a presence in select local newspapers and magazines.
As ABC Pool & Spa Center looks ahead, the company is preparing for a period of transition. With longtime employees nearing retirement, a new generation is stepping up to lead. “This business has always been about family, and we’re excited to see the next chapter unfold,” says Letourneau. “We’re committed to upholding the same high standards that have defined us for over 60 years.”
Beyond being Maine’s oldest pool company, ABC Pool & Spa Center is a cornerstone of the community. It has weathered competition, industry changes, and shifting consumer habits, yet it remains a trusted choice for generations of pool owners.
In April 2024, founder Clarence Letourneau passed away, leaving behind a thriving business that continues to grow under his family’s leadership. “Clarence used to stop by almost every day to check in on us,” Letourneau recalls. “He loved making sure we were 'working hard’ — and he always had a joke or story to share.”
Clarence’s legacy lives on, not only through the company he built but through the lasting relationships he fostered with customers and employees alike. The Letourneau family remains dedicated to honoring his vision while continuing to innovate. “We were one of the first pool companies in Maine,” says Letourneau. “And we plan to be here for many more years to come.”
