Making A Splash
A little friendly competition goes a long way
As BioGuard's Splash for CF campaign enters its third year, the excitement of raising money for a good cause has turned into a little friendly rivalry for some dealers.
Pools Plus, Elizabethtown and Louisville, Ky., and Mermaid Pool, Spa & Patio, Anderson and Muncie, Ind., challenged each other to a summer duel, for lack of a better term, to see who could raise the most money for Splash for CF. (Stay tuned, final results to come soon!) Rumor has it the folks at Mermaid sent a bouquet of Tootsie Roll Pops to Pools Plus with a note that told them to "Prepare for a lickin'!"
Pools Plus raffled $20 tickets for a chance to win a Big Green Egg and hosted a hot dog eating contest with local celebrities. Linda Butler, owner, even offered to match $100 donations.
Mermaid hoped its sale of Splash for CF bracelets and candy bars would help raise the funds to beat Pools Plus, in addition to the proceeds earned from a Corn Hole challenge.
"We had 24 teams, great weather and great fun," says Brenda Murr, owner. "Our winners traveled from Pendleton and Indianapolis to take part, [and they had] no pool or spa. We hope next year will be even bigger and better."
Murr also encouraged her employees to take part by offering two hours of paid time off for every $100 they personally raised.
Both stores already surpassed their initial goal of raising $600 and we're well on their way to raising more than $2,000 just in May alone.
BioGuard has contributed more than $200,000 to cystic fibrosis to-date and has no plans to slow down. The company just improved its dealer promotional kit to raise more funds. Be sure to check the campaign's progress at www.facebook.com/BioGuardSplashforCF.
Perfect Harmony
Every February Canadians gather in the heart of Ottawa to celebrate Winterlude, paying tribute to the winter months. This past February, guests enjoyed the musical stylings of the H2Orchestra. The group uses the first water-based instrument called a hydraulophone, which creates musical notes directly from the sounds of water. The group also integrates the four basic elements: ice (earth), water, steam (air) and plasma (fire).
Belle Piscine
Contemporary Italian pool design at your fingertips
Italian Pool Design - Il design della piscine italiana is the latest release from Editrice il Camp dedicated to contemporary pool design in Italy.
Divided into four sections - design, outdoor, indoor and natural - the book showcases the many faces of the contemporary pool. The design section pays homage not only to pool design, but also to the particularities of creating living space and landscape. The natural section focuses on integrating pool construction harmoniously with the natural surroundings.
The book also features in-depth descriptions of projects, including their history and the expertise required to complete them.
Italian Pool Design is available in both Italian and English. For more information, visit www.ilcampo.it.
Nothing But High Class
Hot tub meets powerboat
Imagine the rush you'd get from soaking in a hot tub while cruising along at speeds up to 180 mph. For a mere $1.5 million you can experience just that and so much more.
Premium Leisure and Statement Marine unveiled this boat/spa combination at the Miami International Boat Show earlier this year, and while you could purchase the tub for a lot less, why not treat yourself to both?
Premium Leisure's Edge 742 hot tub is situated in Passion 50's engine compartment. Because the boat runs off helicopter turbine engines, it can fit the 7-foot tub in that area.
