Pool Bob's Hydro-Eclectic Musings: The New Guy

ONE FOR BOB

During an early 90’s PIE Show, leading chemistry testing company LaMotte (est. 1919) asked the pool industry’s chemist extraordinaire, Bob Lowry, to try out a new way of quickly testing aquatic waters with their new Insta-Test Strip. It was to be the beginning of the pool and spa industry’s turn away from the conventional liquid testing techniques to predominantly using test strips. Bob needed somebody to drive him to some nearby pools to compare (challenge?) the new test strip results against a pool tech’s good old test kit. Yours truly was “volun-told” to chauffeur Bob around to see which was faster and more accurate.

Of course, I let him win.

Bob Lowry greatly helped the pool industry with his friendship, leadership, pool publications, common sense chemistry and practical solutions.
