California's Spa and Pool Industry Education Council To See Drastic Change

California's Spa and Pool Industry Education Council, commonly known as SPEC, is undergoing major changes to attract more attention, grow its membership and strengthen its voice.

First and foremost, the organization is changing its name to the California Pool & Spa Association. According to the official press release, the change was made to bring better present CPSA as the “go-to” organization for both government officials and the general public on issues relating to California’s pool and spa industry.

Yet organization officials also hope the name change, as well as CPSA’s location in the largest market in the country for the pool and spa industry, will attract more members.

As the press release notes: “For over 35 years, SPEC represented all facets of the swimming pool and spa industry in California including pool builders, equipment manufacturers, the pool service industry, distributors, retailers, designers and subcontractors. However, despite a tremendously successful record of achievement, SPEC has always seemed to struggle with people, both inside and outside the industry, knowing who and what SPEC was and why it was necessary to belong to SPEC in order to defend the industry from unwarranted new laws and regulations.”

To help attract more members to the organization, CPSA is working on a new website that will include new features for both consumers and industry pros, including a referral tool to match consumers with CPSA-certified professionals. The website is currently under construction and is planned to be revealed in early 2014.
