SOI 2015: Dukes Up

Cailley Hammel Headshot

Cailley HammelI've always enjoyed the State of the Industry issue. With the results of our annual survey, interviews with industry leaders and more, the SOI issue is without a doubt the most powerful issue we publish each year. This one moreso than usual.

This year's SOI issue cuts to the quick of the issues that most deeply impact pool and spa builders, retailers and service professionals. You'll see Rod Sterling, co-founder of the Pool Retailer's Cooperative, address the threat of the Internet and how retailers can contend with it. For service companies that struggle to find qualified, motivated employees who last more than a season or two, Dan Lenz explains how All Seasons Pools & Spas has achieved an average tenure of 13 years.

Finally, Eric Herman discusses the cancerous underground labor economy and strategies to fix it.

The great thing about this issue is that it presents a chance to truly pack a punch and get to the heart of the industry's most pressing concerns. These three stories show there are smart people out there striving for solutions and working for a better pool and spa industry.

With all that in mind, I think this is a powerhouse of an issue. So read on and get inspired — because things are looking up.
