The Soaring Waters Of Dubai's Burj Fountain (video)

Eric Herman Headshot

Eric HermanI recently received an email from my close friends Suzanne and Ron Dirsmith – the designers responsible for the Playboy Mansion – sharing a link to a truly spectacular clip. (See below.) Suzanne and Ron are great lovers of art and beauty and they love to share creative treasures on line simply to brighten others’ days.

This time around, the prize in the box was video of the massive Dubai Fountain synchronized to Whitney Houston’s mega-hit “I Will Always Love You.” I wanted to share it with you for a couple of good reasons. First, it’s wonderful confluence of art forms. Whitney’s performance is truly eye watering and in the wake of her recent death, the poignancy is off the charts.

That combined with the spectacle of this phenomenal fountain gives me chills. The Burj Fountain is arguably the most amazing fountain every built, both in terms of sheer size and technical sophistication. It’s located on Burj Khalifa Lake, 902 feet long, covering 30 acres and features 6,600 lights. The system shoots water 240 feet in the air with some jets able to send water 420 feet. It was designed by WET Design, the firm that created the fountains at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, presumably the prototype for the Burj Fountain.

To my eyes, this is aquatic design at the highest possible level and the most beautiful of effects. Hope you enjoy this clip. There are several others on YouTube that show the different types of characteristics this amazing system assumes.
