It's interesting that you have little value for the boxes of water that you call mediocre that count in the hundreds of thousands ("Powerful Reinventions, Dec. 21, 2011, www.aquamagazine.com), and compare them to the art forms of that fit into this grand idea of "renovations and the value of art."
Isn't it wonderful that we have the ability to make our backyard experience unique as a snowflake, if not downright heavenly? Well if you can afford it, go for it.
That's maybe one percent.
But, without the vast majority of pools owners whose pools you call "flat out boring, if not downright ugly" the vast majority of us would be unemployed. Would you say Wal-Mart customers have an uncanny "endemic adherence to mediocrity"?
