Building Around The Cacti
Patio Pools & Spas constructs pools in a vivid but sensitive ecosystem, which evokes a different approach to structural design and the landscape artist’s color palette. This pool, which sports a 35-foot freeform negative edge falling away into the Arizona desert and the city lights beyond at night, is a prime example.
“The giant existing saguaro cacti (a protected species) dictated much of the design and location of this pool/spa combination,” says pool designer Michael Cojanis. “The existing slope was controlled with seat wall planters to give a larger, level deck area at the pool elevation, but allowed the saguaro cacti to remain in place.”
