What makes a hero? It is the willingness to go beyond what others would do to save another creature.
When he found a fellow being face down in a pool he was about to service, Rick Gruber, owner of Rick’s Pool Repairs, Phoenix, Ariz., did something most wouldn’t. He stopped what he was doing and tried to save a life that appeared already lost.
As he told CNN, “I would do it for anybody — a rodent, a dog, a cat — anyone.”
Gruber had to be resourceful and adapt what he knew to the situation (trademarks of the modern pool service professional), because although he knew something about CPR, he’d never done it on a squirrel.
So he got creative.
