New for 2005 are the Merchandising Excellence Awards, presented by the Casual Furniture Retailer's (CFR) Association and Hearth & Home magazine. Awards will be presented Wednesday, Sept. 14, on the show floor.

The Design Excellence Awards breakfast will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, from 8:008:30 a.m. with a complimentary meal prepared by the Jill Prescott Culinary School. The 46th annual Apollo Awards will also be held on Sept. 15 at the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom at 6:30 p.m. (invitation only). The CFR membership breakfast and presentation of the CFR design awards will take place on Sept. 16 from 7:30-9:00 a.m., and the Annual Market Party will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the East Bank Club rooftop deck.

New this year, the AQUA Show will feature an additional day of seminars before the show opens on Nov. 16. Throughout the AQUA Show, attendees can expect an expanded education program aimed at increasing profitability and professionalism in spa and pool stores, as well as construction, maintenance and design businesses. The program will offer over 80 seminars and workshops on marketing, finance, store design, sales, customer service, employee relations, repair and maintenance, construction, design and landscaping. The Genesis 3 Design Group will introduce a new college-level design school exclusive to the AQUA Show. Many AQUA and Genesis 3 seminars are eligible for continuing education credits from the International Association for Continuing Education & Training (IACET), the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). In addition, AQUA will debut the AQUA Smart Store on the show floor to offer retailers first-hand experience with new sales, merchandising and display tools and techniques. Facilitated by retail experts, the AQUA Smart Store's activities and events will be free of charge to all AQUA attendees during show hours. Also offered at no charge on the show floor are seminars and demonstrations in the AQUA Design/Build Pavilion. Presented by the Genesis 3 Design Group, these sessions run during show hours and topics include glass tile installation, landscaping, wine appreciation and book signing by selected authors.

All AQUA attendees are invited to both the opening keynote presentation, "If Aristotle Ran General Motors," by Tom Morris, and the industry celebration at the House of Blues. Tom Morris served as a professor of philosophy at Notre Dame for 15 years and now advises some of the world's top companies on how to revolutionize their business practices. The Blues Brothers Revue and Louie Louie will be the featured entertainment at the opening night celebration. Your show badge is your admission to both events.
