G3 Sells Out IPSPE Design School

Scott Webb Headshot

There has been a great deal of industry speculation about the potential strength of the upcoming IPSPE show in Vegas, but one indicator has turned positive. Registration for the Genesis 3 Design Group pre-show education program has been notably robust, with one of its sections selling out well in advance of the show.

Early registration for industry education classes bodes well for the show as a whole, noted Brian Van Bower, president and co-founder of Genesis 3, while cautioning that those looking to take part in the builder group’s pre-show programs should move quickly to secure remaining slots.

“If you want to register for the Genesis 3 Design Schools, I recommend that you do so immediately,” Van Bower said. “One of the three Design Schools, ‘20th Century Architecture,’ is already sold out, and the other three are filling up fast.”

Van Bower said that registrants can still choose one from three 20-hour courses held over 2 1/2 days.  Classes will be held from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 30, and from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm on Monday, Oct. 31 and Tuesday, Nov. 1.  The Monday and Tuesday classes include lunch.

Focusing on pools, spas, water features and ponds, the Genesis 3 Design Schools include the following 20-hour courses:

“Design Communication - Measured Perspective,” introduces attendees to rendered drawings, developing participants' competency with two-point perspective while focusing on scale, proportion, structured plan layouts, grid systems, tone, shadow and more. This class is taught by Larry Drasin, senior project manager of Drasin Design. In addition, Drasin is the project manager for the new Shade Hotel Redondo Beach due to open 2012, as well as an instructor at the UCLA Environmental & Interior Design Dept.

“Advanced Fluid Engineering,” extrapolates the key fluid static and dynamic principles that apply to watershapes.  Attendees will learn how to properly size plumbing and equipment, calculate TDH, operating costs, size chemical systems and other items.  Taught by David J. Peterson, P.E., SWD, Watershape Consulting, Peterson is a registered civil engineer in multiple states, a member of the Society of Watershape Designers (SWD), and a Genesis 3 Platinum Member.

“3-Dimensional Computer Drawing - A Study in Color, Light and Layout with Markers, Part II,” places an emphasis on understanding light to create three-dimensional images, understanding visual depth – the basis of proper visual presentations, and using design markers to create depth on three-dimensional drawings created and formulated in Part I. Presented by David Tisherman, SWD, Genesis 3 Design Group co-founder, and principal and founder of David Tisherman's Visuals.

“If you plan to enroll in the ‘Design Communication - Measured Perspective,’ class, you must complete the prerequisite of ‘An Introduction to Basic Perspective Drawing,’” said Tisherman. “The prerequisite class will be held Oct. 12 in Dallas.” Additional information can be found at www.genesis3.com/education.htm, and complete descriptions and speaker biographies can be found at www.PoolSpaPatio.com/attendee.

In addition to one 20-hour course, the Design Schools registration package also includes a Super Pass, admission to the Expo, one of the three Power Panels and the Welcome Party at LAX.  The registration fee is $1,790.

The 2011 Int’l Pool | Patio | Spa Expo will be held November 2-4, in the Bayside Halls at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. To register for the event, visit www.PoolSpaPatio.com/attendee, or call (972) 536-6350 or (888) 869-8522 for more information.
