Do you go leap out of bed every morning, eager to get to the shop and resume the project you were working on the day before. Do you consider sleeping and eating an annoyance because of the time they take away from work.
As much as I enjoy my life's work, I'm not sure I've ever leapt out of bed. But being around people who do have that kind of enthusiasm is inspiring and energizing. That's why, even if you have no intention — ever — of building or installing a pond, you should get to know Anthony Archer-Wills. The easiest way would be through one of his books: The Water Gardener or Designing Water Gardens: A Unique Approach; a better way would be to attend one of his sessions at the AQUA Show education progra m Nov. 15-18 in Las Vegas.
Mr. Archer-Wills is one of those rare people who is absolutely in love with his work. What I had intended to be a short interview with him for the story on page 87 turned into a two-hour conversation that left me not only with a story, but inspiration for a water garden in the tiny courtyard at my house and special plans to observe the installation of the pond and water garden features in the Genesis 3 pavilion at the AQUA Show.
But Mr. Archer-Wills didn't just get me excited about water gardens: He got me excited about being engaged and invested in whatever I do. If you're lucky, you have found your calling — your life's work — and it energizes you. If you are still searching for your niche, try to find something in your day that makes you want to leap out of bed. I makes work much more rewarding. And it makes it a lot easier to get up in the morning.
