Word of mouth is amazing. When the owner of this pool saw the same pool and spa in a friend's backyard, he had to have them. But the builder, South Lake, Texas-based Southwest Pools, did not want to travel to Abilene to build the replica. Enter Abilene-based Southwest Pools & Spas/A Master Pool Builder. (The two builders are not affiliated.)
"The owner of the South Lake company, Rick Whittington, called me up and asked me if we wanted to build the pool," says Dennis Watson, vice president of Southwest Pools & Spas in Abilene. "He had already drawn the plans so he shipped them to me. We ended up working together. He laid it out and we built it."
Whittington wanted to make sure the homeowners got the pool they wanted, and "we did, too," says Watson.
As you can see, the partnership was a success. Framed by a concrete deck with a salt finish and Arizona flagstone coping, the free-form pool and round, spillover spa are a good fit in this yard of naturally curvy mesquite trees. Moss rock waterfalls, a jump rock and a beach entry add to the organic feel of the design.
"It was kind of a neat deal," says Watson, who adds that he and Whittington became good friends in the process.
