The latest creation from Splinter Works, the British company that reimagines the familiar, combines the relaxing qualities of both a hammock and a bath — fittingly named the Hammock Bath.

Splinter Works was started in 2009 by designers — some would say visionaries — Miles Hartwell and Matt Withington. The pair has garnered widespread attention for their imaginative designs of household items, including furniture and cabinetry and most notably, swimming pool slides that look like something from a sci-fi movie, and a line of baths and basins with wildly creative aesthetic and functional designs.

With the Hammock Bath, Splinter Works bent convention, creating a hammock made of carbon/fiber foam that holds hot water. According to a release from the company, "This bath has literally elevated the immersive comfort of soaking in a hot bath by combining it with the peaceful experience of kicking-back in a hammock."

Like a traditional hammock, the pod-like feature is suspended above the ground — or more accurately the bathroom floor. The bath is filled with a minimalist standing floor tap and then drained via a valve in the bottom of the vessel. Custom sizes range from 2.6 to 3 meters. With its sleek, contemporary shape and material, the design harmonizes with Splinter Works' sinks and basins. At more than $30,000, the Hammock Bath isn't for everyone, but for those who are looking for an ultra-luxury bathing experience, the product might represent an indulgent step in the future.
