Even though it's still 80 degrees outside, it's time for retailers to start thinking about ordering winterizing products. These manufacturers have pulled together their bestsellers for you to browse. Take a look and be prepared when your customers start their winterizing routine this year.
Periodic Products offers CuLator Metal Eliminator and Stain Preventer, which permanently eliminates copper, manganese and iron from pool and spa water, the company says. CuLator is a nontoxic winterizing product that works in both fresh and saltwater by placing a pre-measured flow-through PowerPak in the skimmer for two weeks to a month before closing.
GLB Pool offers its GLB Pool Closing Kit with three components. This kit includes Algimycin 2000, Oxy-Brite non-chlorine shock oxidizer, Clear Blue clarifier, Filter Cleanse, Sequa-Sol sequestering agent and Algimycin Winter.
PermaCoatings introduces the Ultra Gizzmo. This winterizing product makes it possible to blow filter lines clear without lowering the pool water level, the company says. No more draining the pool means less chemicals in the environment, and time saved and prolonged life of the pool cover, which also reduces landfill waste, according to PermaCoatings.
SimPoolTec offers the Skimmer Plug, simplest and most affordable method for servicing and winterizing aboveground and inground skimmers, the company says. The Skimmer Plug fits OEM skimmers without the need to replace the original skimmer faceplate and serves as a replacement lid for all specialty faceplates, according to SimPoolTec. No tools are required for installation.
Jedco offers the SkimSaver LID'L Seal. This product is the only patented snap-on winter lid allowing your customers to drain their skimmer, but not their pool, the company says. The SkimSaver LID'L Seal installs on any above- or inground pool skimmer (standard and widemouth) using SkimSavers' unique, patented faceplate.
BioGuard offers its Arctic Blue Winter Kit. This kit contains everything needed to prevent algae growth during winter months, the company says. The Arctic Blue Winter Kit is available in two sizes to treat up to 12,000 gallons and up to 24,000 gallons. The kit includes Arctic Blue Algae Protector, Arctic Blue Shock, a Winterization Guide and valuable coupons.
Pen-Fabricators offers its CleanLine strapless solid winter safety cover. This cover has no straps across its length or its width and has no stitching to speak of. The CleanLine cover is manufactured using reinforced vinyl materials, provides an attractive, clean look and is one-third lighter than traditional solid safety covers, the company says.
CoverLogix introduces its 9000MX winter safety cover. This cover combines strong, self-draining mesh material with heavy-duty suspension springs and is backed by a 20-year warranty. The 9000MX material also offers practically 100 percent UV protection — so water gets through but light does not — inhibiting algae growth so pool openings are easier and cleaner in the spring, according to CoverLogix.
Plastimayd introduces Construction Dome, an air-inflated structure designed specifically for pool professionals looking to extend the construction and renovation season into winter. This product uses reinforced, rugged vinyl fabric that stands up to the rigors of pool construction jobs, but is still lightweight and easy to transport, the company says.
AquaPill offers its WinterPill, an all-in-one formula with an exclusive four-part blend that makes spring openings faster and easier, the company says. This pill includes a clarifier to maintain sparkling clear water, a scale inhibitor to prevent scale build-up, a stain inhibitor to prevent iron, copper and manganese stains and an enzyme-enhancer to naturally destroy all organics, prevent water rings, enhance filter performance and improve sanitizer efficiency.
From King Technology, the makers of Frog Mineral Products, comes Frog Bam, a 90-day algae preventative that doubles as an effective winterizer. Frog Bam is uniquely shaped to fit and dispense evenly through the Pool Frog Equipment, but non-Frog users can also enjoy the low-copper-based product that stays in suspension for 90 days keeping algae from forming so spring opening is that much easier, the company says. This winterizing product is a concentration of environmentally safe, natural proteins that are formulated to create and maintain sparkling clean healthy water, the company says. It works fast to clean up organic contamination, unpleasant odors and helps lift off water lines caused over the winter months while adding a residual of proteins to the water so that any sanitizer system functions better, according to Auraco.
API offers its multi-tasking E-Z Pool products as both weekly preventative treatment and an effective winterizing program. Like its weekly regimen, the E-Z Pool winterizing program calls for just a single application prior to pool closing. After 30 minutes of circulation pools can be closed with no pre-balancing, post-balancing or additional chemicals required, according to API.
Nisus introduces EVAC, an environmentally friendly, reduced risk EPA-registered botanical rodent repellent made with plant fibers, fragrance oil and balsam fir oil. Its pleasant pine scent is formulated to repel rodents naturally, the company says. Use EVAC in pump houses, spa housings, electrical junction boxes, stored pool covers, pool houses or any closed non-living areas where rodents may nest.
LOOP-LOC Safety Covers are strong enough to stand up to just about anything mother nature has to offer, the company says. These covers are available in both mesh and solid material with unique patented treatments. Merlin introduces its patented SmartMesh, the only safety cover material that provides 100 percent shade from the algae blooming rays of the sun, the company says. SmartMesh also filters particles as fine as 40 microns. SmartMesh is 40 percent lighter than most solid cover materials and is available to fit any shape or size pool, according to Merlin Industries. This product comes in green, blue or tan.
Aquador is a snap-on skimmer-closure system. This product eliminates costly "drain down" for winterizing, protects the skimmer from winter freeze up, is easy to install with no special tools required, makes filter and plumbing repair a snap and saves valuable treated pool water, according to the company.

GLI introduces its ProMesh Safety Cover. This cover offers all of the benefits of a solid safety cover without the associated weight, the company says. Coverstar offers a variety of safety covers for pool winterization needs.
