The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals announces the draft revision of the ANSI/APSP-7 2006 Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance in Swimming Pools, Wading Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs, and Catch Basins. Comments are due June 15, 2013.

APSP is seeking approval for the revisions under the accreditation procedures with the American National Standards Institute. The standard covers design and performance criteria for circulation systems including components, devices and related technology installed to protect against entrapment hazards in residential and public swimming pools, wading pools, inground spas, catch pools and aquatic recreation facilities. This standard applies to new and, when retrofitting, existing installations. Suction entrapment avoidance guidelines for portable electric spas/hot tubs are not covered by this standard. They are covered by UL 1563, Electric Spas, Equipment Assemblies, and Associated Equipment.
