Betsy Watson, Director of Communications, CMAHCBetsy Watson, Director of Communications, CMAHCThe Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code (CMAHC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Betsy Watson as its new director of communications. Watson joins CMAHC with a diverse background in both nonprofit and for-profit healthcare communications, bringing experience in public relations, performance marketing, and program development. Her addition marks a pivotal step in the organization’s strategic growth as it continues to expand public awareness and elevate the importance of the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC).

Kristie Riester, executive director of CMAHC, shares: “We are thrilled to welcome Betsy aboard as our new Director of Communications. As CMAHC continues to grow and evolve, her unique blend of nonprofit and healthcare experience will be instrumental in developing new programs throughout 2025. Betsy's background will help enhance CMAHC’s online visibility and broaden our reach to new audiences.”

In her role, Watson will work to increase awareness of the upcoming 5th Edition of the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC), anticipated for release in the first quarter of 2025. She will also spearhead programs to spotlight CMAHC’s key partners, including those with MAHC-certified products, as well as board members and ambassadors making significant contributions to public health in the aquatic industry. “Betsy will help shine a spotlight on those working hard to enhance the safety of public aquatic facilities across the country,” adds Riester.

Watson's appointment also signals CMAHC’s growing public relations efforts beyond industry-specific channels. Recently featured in Parents magazine, CMAHC is highlighting the critical work of its technical directors and increasing awareness of the MAHC, particularly why it matters to parents. “It’s essential for parents to understand how MAHC-driven standards protect the health and safety of their children when using public pools and aquatic facilities,” says Riester. CMAHC will continue to prioritize these efforts to grow awareness.

Having just completed her 90-day onboarding and planning period, Watson is already preparing for new initiatives at CMAHC. One such project is the upcoming rebrand of the Aquatic Venue Public Health Inspectors Course, set to launch in Q4 2024. This rebrand aligns with CMAHC's ongoing commitment to enhancing public health education and safety standards within the aquatic industry.
