The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance is proud to offer an online Certified Pool Operator program, allowing pool professionals to safely receive certification from the comfort of their home or office.

Since 1972, more than 400,000 students have received training through the Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) certification program. CPO certification provides individuals with the knowledge, techniques and skills required for proper pool operations. This course is eligible for IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

“After the onset of the pandemic, PHTA was able to quickly adapt and transition our CPO certification program online,” says PHTA President and CEO Sabeena Hickman, CAE. “Since pivoting to an online program, we have trained and tested candidates in all 50 states, Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and countries across the globe.”

The PHTA CPO certification course has seen a steady 85% passing rate for online testing. The association has administered over 8,500 tests via online proctoring through CPO Instructors and through remote proctoring to satisfy stipulations in specific states.

The program has attracted candidates from every U.S. state and 12 countries, including Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Mexico, Cyprus, South Korea, Antigua West Indies, Taiwan, Thailand, Saint Lucia, Hong Kong and the Cayman Islands. The five states with the most candidates tested are Texas, Colorado, Florida, California and Virginia. Through this program, 114 Instructors (14% of total active instructors) have transitioned to offering online education and testing.
