Having a swimming pool can change someone’s life. There’s no question it has changed mine.
That’s not why I’ve become the newest member of the AQUA team — I’ll be handling Eastern U.S. sales — but after a lifetime around the water, I believe it.
There is something about being around water that relaxes people, and allows them to just be themselves a little more. When I was in high school, my parents put in a vinyl-liner pool, and that decision changed our family culture forever.
For me, our family pool became the center of my life — where I got my exercise and met friends after school, and where we had parties on weekends. Based on those experiences, I started my own business in college teaching private swimming lessons after becoming a certified lifeguard/instructor. To this day, it remains a social rally point for my younger sister and of course, my parents. There are always people around that pool. We just replaced the liner last week.
Knowing what a difference water can make in someone’s life, I really am excited about this opportunity to work in the pool and spa industry. I think what I like best about it is the fact that there are a lot of hardworking people in this industry — I’ve seen that firsthand — and these are true craftsmen and artists. They are able to take simple materials like cement, vinyl or fiberglass and create something beautiful and functional that people really appreciate every day, and that lasts for years and years.
The people of the pool and spa industry, through the products they build and support, really do change people’s lives. I know, because they’ve changed mine.
