Association Head Wins Award

photo of Dick Covert receiving awardMaster Pools Guild executive director Dick Covert was recently honored with the Virginia Society of Association Executive's CEO Award of Excellence for 2010. The award is given to the outstanding association professional who has been nominated by peers in recognition of leadership and achievements.

Covert has managed associations for over 35 years, but when he came to the Guild in 1997, he says, "It was like I had found the ideal job. This is the ideal group to work with. Everybody works together, and it's almost like a family reunion when our members get together."

Since 1997, the guild has grown from 70 to 106 members, and has grown internationally. "When I came on, we had two international members and now we have 10," says Covert. "We go from South Africa to India."

In his tenure as executive director, Covert has particularly enjoyed seeing the improved quality of the pools that guild members build because of their exchange of information. Guild members frequently share good advice, and this environment of cooperation strengthens them all, says Covert.
