Public review is an important part of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards consensus development process.

PHTA Announces National Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance
The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) is proud to announce that the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved the ANSI/PHTA/ICC-7 2020 American National Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance In Swimming Pools, Wading Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs, and Catch Basins. This newly approved standard is a revision of the ANSI/APSP/ICC-7 2013 standard. ANSI publicly announced the approval of the 2020 standard in ANSI Standards Action on November 19, 2020.

May is National Water Safety Month
A coalition of water safety partners, including the American Red Cross, the National Recreation and Park Association, the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance and the World Waterpark Association, along with dozens of other water safety groups will work together to promote May as National Water Safety Month (NWSM). NWSM engages the public to raise awareness about water safety and highlights the importance of public education regarding safer practices for kids and adults when they’re in and around water.

Chemical Reaction at Georgia-Based Facility
On Monday, Sept. 14, a chemical reaction occurred in BioLab’s Conyers, Ga., facility, caused by roughly 12 pallets of dry chemicals. A BioLab spokesperson states that the incident was a result of water exposure, which caused the response team to be especially cautious while dealing with the situation.
