Core Covers announced this week it has acquired Sunstar Spa Covers & Accessories, a move that will expand Core's production to 250,000 spa covers per year, making it the world's largest supplier of spa safety covers.
According to a statement from Core, the acquisition is ideal in several ways: The companies are both based in San Diego, Calif., and are operationally identical, allowing for seamless integration; Core will also retain Sunstar's production staff, securing decades of skilled experience.
“Sunstar’s legacy of high quality product is an attribute we value and respect. Combining these two companies made complete sense given the synergies, increasing raw material cost, rising labor rate and the competitive nature of spa covers. Core has been very successful with innovation and has the best manufacturing platform for making covers. Adding Sunstar’s highly experienced management and skilled work force creates a recipe that takes spa cover manufacturing to a new level,” says Jerry Greer, CEO of Core Covers.
The combined operations will be centered at Core's corporate offices in San Diego, Calif.
