The infamous Manhattan Park Pool Deck is known in NYC for its annual artsy glamour that takes this otherwise ordinary pool to a whole new level. Since 2015, the “Instagrammable gem” has been making visual statements, and this year is no exception.
The pool deck on Roosevelt Island hosts an annual tradition meant to bolster emerging artists, turning the space into a canvas larger than life and making it possible to completely redefine the area for pool-goers to enjoy.
This year’s design came from Paris-based artist Meri Karapetyan in her mural titled Waves of Joy.

Time Out magazine affectionately calls it a “dizzying, delightful homage to nature’s movement and energy.” The vivid colors and stimulating shapes transport residents from their ordinary pool deck to a sensational summer staycation spot.
“The mural is not just about decoration; it’s an invitation to reconnect with nature and embrace the lightness of the present moment,” says Karapetyan.
Manhattan Park is open to the public via seasonal memberships or day passes. To view the full mural and Karapetyan’s dazzling work, click here.
