Dealers love it when hot tubs are flying out the door, so to speak, but when they literally fly, that's not nearly as welcome. This happened in April, for just a few seconds, when a "microburst" in Grand Junction, Colo., launched two 700-pound Dimension One portable spas up into the air and then into the street just a few feet away. A mircroburst occurs when air descends and accelerates at the ground.
Security footage from Aqua Time Pools & Spas caught the event on tape. Fortunately, no cars or people were in the road where the tubs landed, so no one was injured. Police directed traffic while a forklift moved the spas. The National Weather Service in Boulder told local news stations the wind may have gusted to around 70 miles per hour because the buildings caused it to funnel through.
