National Water Safety Month wrapped just a couple weeks ago, but water safety is a year-round concern. With that in mind, we bring you an innovative idea to improve the water safety skills of primary school children from across the globe.
It's a sad but well-documented fact that many children are never offered any access to water environments and have no opportunity to learn to swim. All their lives, they fear water as a threat.
The people at Pools iN SchoolZ have taken matters into their own hands by setting up portable swimming pools at primary schools in New Zealand, where children get a chance to get comfortable in water right in the schoolyard.
Major discovery: It's a lot easier to get kids into the water and fired up about learning to swim when the alternative is math class.
According to the story in Pool And Spa Review, the program provides covered, heated 30-foot portable pools to schools around New Zealand free of charge. Each pool rotates between four schools each year.
For each pool, equipment manufacturer Waterco provides a Hydroxypure sanitization system and a MultiCyclone centrifugal filtration device, along with filters, pump and heater.
