50 Years of Fun Under the Sun

Led by the Florida Swimming Pool Association, what began as a small tabletop event in 1972 has evolved into a trade show averaging over 200 exhibitors and 4,000- plus attendees each year. The 2022 Everything Under the Sun Expo is on track to hit pre-pandemic attendance and exhibition numbers — and Executive Director Elizabeth McMurray couldn’t be happier.

“I am so excited about this year’s show. Our show has had many iterations over the years, and its continued growth and evolution is reflective of the changes in our industry and our association,” she says.

Education offerings begin on Wednesday morning, and the Welcome & Awards reception is set for Thursday night. The Friday Night Party will take place at Howl at the Moon, featuring a variety of food, drinks and a dueling piano performance. The Exhibit Hall will open Friday and Saturday.

This year’s event features a well-rounded education program, with over 157 hours of learning opportunities through 65 sessions. In addition, a number of Learning Labs will be held across the Exhibit Hall.

As the Expo’s new executive director, McMurray certainly has big shoes to fill — but she’s ready for the challenge. “Our previous executive director [Wendy Parker Barsell] created quite the legacy with the growth of this show during her tenure here. She was a specialist in putting together a seamless event that really took all perspectives into consideration,” says McMurray. “Our team is building on that foundation this year and highlighting our history, feedback that I’ve garnered from previous attendees and exhibitors on improvements they feel we can make, and really thinking outside the box on garnering interest from different types of exhibitors.”

With 50 strong years of growth and development behind the event, McMurray looks toward the future of the Expo with nothing but optimism. “Really, the sky’s the limit,” she says. “We have such an amazing group of staff, volunteers, members, board of directors, and attendees and exhibitors that we can continue to grow and expand our horizons based on their input and needs. Anything is possible with these folks, I truly believe that.”
