The money will assist jurisdictions in reducing deaths and injuries from drowning and drain entrapment incidents in pools and spas.

In response to the North Carolina Legionnaires outbreak, both the CDC and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has released guidelines for treating water in temporary event displays.

Final Report Says Hot Tubs “Most Likely” Source of NC Legionella Outbreak

Investigators speculated the Legionella could have been in source water or present in the plumbing of the tubs, but that conditions at the fair promoted growth of the pathogen.

The Davis Event Center at the N.C. Mountain State Fair, which housed the hot tub display suspected of causing the Legionella outbreak.
