FSPA Member Reappointed to Florida Building Commission

James “Jim” Batts has been reappointed to the Florida Building Commission. Batts was announced along with 10 other individuals to the Commission by Governor Ron DeSantis on February 17. Batts was first appointed to the Commission in 2013 by Governor Rick Scott.

“I am grateful and humbled to be reappointed to the Commission for another term,” says Batts. “It is a great honor to represent the swimming pool and spa industry and ensure that Florida’s Building Code works for our industry and works for all of Florida’s residents, businesses and visitors.”

Batts is the president of The Batts Company, a pool construction and remodeling business serving the northeast Florida region. He is a former state board president and current member of the Florida Swimming Pool Association (FSPA). He has also served as the chairman and is a current member of the Contractor’s Review Board of St. Johns County.

“We are thrilled that Jim has been reappointed and will continue to help shape the Florida Building Code,” says Dallas Thiesen, FSPA senior director of Government Affairs. “His depth of knowledge and experience in swimming pool and spa construction is unmatched.”

Batts is the sole pool industry representative on the Commission by statute. The Florida Building Commission is responsible for the adoption and update of the Florida Building Code on a triennial basis.
