Veteran educators Greg Garrett and Robert Lowry have created a new course on residential swimming pool chemistry for professional service technicians under the name of their newly formed Pool Chemistry Training Institute (PCTI). Pool Chemistry Certification – Residential (PCC-R) is a one-day course that includes six hours of instruction and a one-hour exam of 50 multiple choice and true false questions.
The course is based on Lowry’s “Pool Chemistry For Residential Pools,” a 226-page book published this years, and his short handbook “Pool Chemistry for Service Pros,” also published in 2018. Students successfully completing the course and passing the exam will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement. They will be certified for three years and will receive a Pool Chemistry patch they can wear and can use the course emblem in their marketing and advertising materials. They will also be listed on the PCTI website.
Lowry and Garrett bring considerable experience to the program with more than 100 years of combined industry experience. In a joint statement they explained their motivation for creating the course. “PCTI is proud to be the first with a certified training program for residential pool chemistry. It has been a longtime need and we intend to show the public that there is a way to assure their investment is being properly chemically cared for.”
The first courses are scheduled for Sept. 27, Concord, Calif.; Sept. 29, Sacramento; Oct. 3, Canoga Park, Calif.; Oct. 5, Ontario, Calif.; and Oct. 9, Phoenix. The course costs $300. It is not necessary to take the course to purchase the books, which are available at the PCTI website.
