One of the hardest aspects of swimming is learning when to breathe during each stroke. AMEO, a German company, has unveiled a product that may help: the Powerbreather, a redesigned snorkel.

Powerbreather's design is simple: two tubes wrap around the swimmer's head, where they inhale fresh air from the surface. The tubes connect to a mouthpiece where the swimmer exhales. A twist lock holds the contraption on the swimmer's head. The symmetrical design is more aerodynamic than a standard snorkel, and swimmers don't have to worry about turning their head to breathe.

Its uniqueness comes in the breathing apparatus. By redirecting exhalations away from the inhalation tube, Powerbreather provides fresh air for its swimmer. With a normal snorkel, a swimmer can sometimes re-breathe the air they just exhaled. It's also easier for a normal snorkel to get filled with water, something the Powerbreather is designed to prevent.

The tubes of the Powerbreather use AMEO's Fresh Air System. A membrane keeps water out while allowing air to flow inward when the swimmer inhales. Exhales are released through the mouthpiece where the two tubes intersect.

Powerbreather is suitable for swimmers of multiple skill levels with three versions: Sport (easy), Lap (intermediate) and Wave (advanced). Both the Lap and Wave versions keep water out if the Powerbreather is submerged, a feature that comes in handy for flip turns.
