As the world’s most populous nation, with a staggering 1.6 billion people, it’s not surprising that China has some of the world’s most crowded swimming pools. As summer rolls along, it’s not unusual to see community aquatic centers and waterparks filled to the brim with eager bathers, young and old.
According to Casey Bassel, a writer with Rocket News 24, an online news source for Japan and Asia, “Public pools are, by definition, open to everyone, which for some of these pools seems to also be the proper way to describe who’s showed up.”
In asking Chinese attendees at one local waterpark if they minded sharing the water with so many bathers, reporters consistently received responses that reflected the Chinese’s enthusiasm for the aquatic experience.
Replied one attendee, “The more, the merrier!”
