We’re in the thick of the pool season, and thanks to your hard work, people all over the country are enjoying a splash in their pools.

But it’s not just the average family in the suburbs who enjoys going for a dip — celebrities also love going for a refreshing swim. And now, you can see it for yourself.

To honor the swimming pool and the fun it brings, TIME created a fantastic slideshow of vintage photographs of celebrities enjoying their swimming pools.

One of our favorites: this candid shot of the Beatles in a Miami Beach swimming pool during their first tour in the US in 1964. When asked about it later, photographer John Loengard said: “We could not find a heated pool that could be closed off from the rest of the press, so we settled for one that was not … [and they] started turning blue."

In addition to images of the rich and famous, the slideshow also has historical images of the other uses for swimming pools in the past, such as a training ground for soldiers in 1942, or a tool for rehabilitating polio patients in 1938.
