The National Plasterers Council (NPC) is proudly offering the Rey Pereles Memorial Scholarship to the children of NPC members and their employees.

In 2007, the NPC and the pool industry in southwest Florida experienced shock and dismay when National Board Member Rey Pereles passed away. Rey was admitted to the hospital with a case of pneumonia on a Thursday. The next day, after numerous tests, he and his family were told that he might also have leukemia. The confirmation came two days later on Monday. He passed away that Friday, Aug. 6, 2007 in the afternoon.

Although soft spoken and quiet, Pereles commanded attention, and people listened when he spoke. With his keen skill of listening and evaluating concerns for the organization and industry before speaking, he held the unofficial title of the "conscience" of the organization and the board, according the the NPC.

The Rey Pereles Memorial scholarship was created by the Board of Directors with the intention of keeping Pereles’ memory and spirit alive within everyone’s hearts and within the NPC. Scholarship awards are determined by academic achievement, a student-researched essay and letters of reference. Applications and paperwork are due to the NPC office by Dec. 31, 2020.

The dollar amounts of the scholarships and number of winners will be determined by the Scholarship Committee annually, based on the available funds. The amount will range from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $5,000. Scholarships are announced in January of each year and will be awarded at the National Plasterers Council Conference the following February.

The NPC is proud to offer this member benefit on an annual basis. For more information and how to apply, visit the organization’s website here.
